Green Lipped Mussel is recommended by vets, magazines and universities around the world.

The label

Ingredients come first

Turn over almost any joint chew and the ingredient that actually works sits near the bottom of the label — behind the glycerin, the pea flour and the flavouring. Often it is under 20% of what you paid for. A disc that is already drying out does not need 20%.

Our label reads: 100% freeze-dried New Zealand Green Lipped Mussel. That is the entire list. Vet formulated, clinically proven, and tasteless enough that most dogs never notice it on their food.

What's inside Green Lipped Mussel

One ingredient, 30+ omega-3s

What's inside Green Lipped Mussel

Nothing here was added. Green Lipped Mussel arrives already carrying everything a weakening disc needs — which is why one ingredient is enough.

  • ETA omega-3

The reason this mussel gets studied at all. ETA interrupts the inflammatory signal upstream, at the point where the body decides to start swelling, rather than mopping up afterwards.

  • EPA and DHA

The two omega-3s you already know from fish oil. They calm the swelling that is already there and take the pressure off an irritated nerve root.

  • Glycosaminoglycans (GAGs)

The raw material cartilage is rebuilt from — and a spinal disc is cartilage. It is also what keeps the disc core holding onto water instead of drying out.

  • Natural chondroitin

Not the synthetic version pressed into tablets — the form that comes packaged in the shellfish, sitting between the bone ends as padding.

  • Vitamins & minerals

The unglamorous cofactors. Without them the body can't actually use the rest, which is why isolated ingredients so often underperform.

  • Carotenoids & antioxidants

Damaged discs keep generating oxidative stress, which keeps damaging the disc. These slow that loop down.

Getting it right

Goal: a spine that lasts. Step one: feed the discs.

Nearly every disappointed customer we have had got one of these three wrong. Here they are, up front.

The evidence

The Science

PubMed lists 200+ studies on Green Lipped Mussel for cartilage and joint health — and a spinal disc is cartilage. It has been used in traditional medicine for hundreds of years. Results from third-party trials:

93%

showed improved mobility (vs only 7% of the control group)

89%

had less stiffness and pain after 4 weeks

91%

were significantly more active after 60 days

What to expect

How your dog should improve, week by week

This is not a painkiller and nothing happens on day two. Here is the pattern owners report most often.

“I'd made peace with it. She was thirteen, she'd had a good run, and I'd started planning around the assumption that she couldn't do things. Week two I noticed she was already standing when I came downstairs instead of waiting for me to help. Week four she did the whole field. Week six she got on the sofa without the ramp and looked at me like I'd been making a fuss about nothing. I'm still annoyed I didn't try this a year earlier.”

Day 1-3

Nothing yet. It is only starting to build up in her system — this is the stage most people quit at.

Week 1-2
Week 1-2

The first change is usually a quiet one: less groaning lying down, and getting up in a single movement.

Week 2-4
Week 2-4

Morning stiffness shortens and walks stop being cut short. This is the most commonly reported turning point.

Week 4-6
Week 4-6

Willing movement returns — stairs, the car, the long loop. If nothing has changed by now, it is not the answer for your dog.

Vet Recommended

Dr. Erin Whitaker, DVM

Riverbend Animal Wellness — Asheville, North Carolina

“Most joint supplements that cross my desk are a tiny dose of something real buried in filler. Green Lipped Mussel is one of the few where the clinical literature actually holds up, and a 100% pure powder means I know exactly what the dog is getting. For the disc-prone breeds I see most weeks, that matters more than anything on the front of the label.”

  • Safe to run alongside most existing medications — but tell your vet, as you would with anything.
  • No known interaction issues at the doses used in published trials.
  • Not suitable for dogs with a diagnosed shellfish allergy.
  • Six weeks is a fair trial. If nothing has changed by then, it isn't the answer for that dog.

Mobility Powder 2.0

New Improved Formula

Same single ingredient — just more of what works, extracted better.

  • 2x stronger concentration

A scoop now carries double what the first batch did, which is why the dosing dropped from two scoops to one for smaller dogs.

  • Improved extraction

Preserves more of the natural compounds that reduce inflammation. Heat destroys the lipid fraction, so this batch never goes above freezing between harvest and packing.

  • 100% pure

Stronger formula, same single ingredient. No flow agent, no anti-caking additive, no flavouring.

  • Same one ingredient

Still nothing in the tub but Green Lipped Mussel — just more of it. Every batch is third-party tested before it ships.

New Improved Formula

Why us

Why trust us when everything else failed you?

31,400+ tubs shipped since launch

By the time most people find us they've already bought three other things. A bag of chews the dog loved and that did nothing. A pump bottle of oil that went rancid in the cupboard. Maybe a prescription that worked but came with a liver panel every six months and a knot in your stomach every time you handed one over.

So I'm not going to tell you this is a miracle, because you have correctly stopped believing that word. What I'll tell you is narrower and duller and, I think, more useful: there is one ingredient with a fifty-year research trail behind it, it is difficult and expensive to source properly, and almost nobody sells it on its own because a tub of one thing has terrible margins compared to a tub of one thing plus a lot of flour.

That's the entire business. We buy it from the Marlborough Sounds, freeze-dry it without cooking the good part out of it, put it in a tub, and don't add anything. If that sounds unambitious, it's because it is. The ambition went into the sourcing.

Take a photo of your dog on the day the first tub arrives — standing up, side on, in the same doorway. You will not trust your memory in six weeks, and the photo settles the argument either way. If the second photo looks the same as the first, write to me and I'll refund you myself.

A labrador drinking from the garden hose
Hazel W.
21-7-2026

Twelve years old and he'd stopped bothering with the garden in the heat. Three weeks on this and he was back pestering me for the hose like he used to. That's the whole review, really.

A great dane lying across the hallway
Colin M.
18-7-2026

Great danes don't age gracefully and I knew what was coming. He'd stopped using the hallway because the floor was slippy and getting up was a production. Six weeks in and he's back to blocking the doorway like he owns the place. I'll take the tripping hazard.

A husky sitting on a snowy step
Nils O.
14-7-2026

Short one. Husky, eleven, stiff every single morning. Two weeks and the morning stiffness is basically gone.

A black labrador indoors
Bernadette F.
11-7-2026

I've bought so many joint supplements I'm embarrassed to say the number. Chews he spat out, a powder that gave him the runs, one that turned out to be mostly rice flour. Started this in May and by the middle of June he was doing the stairs without stopping halfway. I keep waiting for it to stop working and it hasn't.

A dachshund asleep on its owner's lap
Priya R.
7-7-2026

My dachshund is nine and had started refusing to be picked up because it hurt her back end. Now she climbs into my lap herself. Small thing. Not a small thing.

A bernese mountain dog in autumn leaves
Estelle D.
3-7-2026

The vet had us on daily anti-inflammatories and I hated every tablet I handed over — she's ten and I was worried about her liver. We've halved the dose with the vet's blessing since starting this. She played in the leaves last week for the first time in two autumns.

A boxer in the kitchen doorway
Wesley T.
29-6-2026

Works. Dachshund, seven, one episode behind us. Ordering again.

A small shih tzu cross in the living room
Marguerite L.
25-6-2026

She's tiny and I worried the dose would be too much for her, but half a scoop is plenty. What I noticed first wasn't the walking, it was that she stopped that little groan every time she lay down. My husband noticed it before I'd said anything.

A jack russell standing on a stone wall
Duane P.
21-6-2026

Terrier, thirteen, thinks he's three. The problem was he'd try to jump things he couldn't manage anymore and then be sore for two days afterwards. He's steadier on his feet now and he made it onto the wall unassisted, which I have mixed feelings about.

A muddy cocker spaniel in the boot of the car
Saoirse B.
17-6-2026

Honestly I bought it because it was the only one with a single ingredient and I'd run out of other ideas. Five weeks. She's jumping into the boot again instead of standing there waiting to be lifted. I've since ordered two more tubs.

A rottweiler cross on its dog bed
Otto K.
12-6-2026

Big dog, ten years old, and the getting-up was getting harder to watch. I'd started thinking about the conversation nobody wants to have. He's not a puppy but he gets up in one movement now and he's comfortable, and comfortable was all I was asking for.

A border collie on a woodland path
Lorna S.
8-6-2026

My collie had started shortening her own walks — she'd just stop and look at me. We did the full loop on Sunday. First time since Christmas. I had a little cry in a wood, which is not like me.

A pointer standing in long grass
Curtis A.
4-6-2026

I run him on the fields and at nine he was pulling up sore afterwards. Four weeks on the powder and he isn't stiff the next morning anymore. Whatever's in it, it's doing something the fish oil never did.

A poodle cross on a kitchen chair
Beatriz N.
30-5-2026

She can get up on the kitchen chair again. That's her spot and she'd given it up. Three weeks.

A beagle yawning on the sofa
Malcolm H.
26-5-2026

Sceptical man, sceptical review. Beagle, twelve, arthritic front end, on and off painkillers for two years. I gave this six weeks expecting nothing measurable and instead he's off the painkillers entirely, with the vet's agreement. I don't understand it and I'm not going to argue with it.

A springer spaniel shaking off water
Rhiannon E.
22-5-2026

Springer, eleven. She'd stopped going in the water, which for a springer is roughly like giving up breathing. She swam on Saturday.

A staffie cross lying on the lawn
Tobias G.
18-5-2026

I started it for his back and didn't expect anything else, but his coat has come in better too. Main thing though — he doesn't need helping up off the floor. My back is also grateful.

A mixed breed dog on the patio
Delphine C.
13-5-2026

Rescue, we think about twelve, came to us already stiff. Six weeks of this and the difference is all in small things: she trots down the patio steps now instead of doing them one at a time, sideways. No idea what she'd have been like if we'd had her younger.

A whippet curled up in its bed
Arnold J.
9-5-2026

Whippet, fourteen, all bones and attitude. He used to take twenty minutes to settle at night because he couldn't get comfortable. Now he's out cold in two. The tub lasts about two months at his size.

A terrier crossing the lawn
Wilhelmina V.
5-5-2026

I'll be the sceptic in the reviews. It's shellfish powder, it isn't magic, and I don't think it has cured anything. What I can say is that after five weeks she's noticeably more willing to move and she's stopped hesitating at the back door. For the money, that's fine by me.

90 Days

If we don't help your dog, we don't want your money

Use it daily for ninety days. If your dog isn't moving more easily by the end of that, email support@tryluckytails.com and we'll refund the order in full. You don't need to ship the tub back — it's yours either way, and posting a half-used tub of powder back to us helps nobody.

We can offer that because we know the ingredient works for most dogs, and we also know it does not work for all of them. Ninety days is long enough for you to find out which one yours is, at our risk rather than yours.

Before you buy

The questions we actually get asked

Still stuck? Email support@tryluckytails.com — a person reads it, usually within a working day.

Green Lipped Mussel builds up over 2–4 weeks, with week three the most commonly reported turning point. It is not a painkiller, so nothing happens on day two. If you are at week six of daily use with no change at all, email us and we will refund you.
Almost always, yes. It's a fine powder with a faint sea smell and very little taste, so it disappears into wet food and sticks to kibble if you shake the bowl. Fussy dogs occasionally notice it in the first few days — mixing it into something wet for a week usually settles that.
No, and older dogs are the majority of who we sell to. Age isn't the limiting factor — how much healthy disc cartilage is still there is. A dog with advanced degeneration may improve less dramatically than a stiff eight-year-old, but the discs that haven't failed yet are exactly the ones worth protecting, and they are still there at any age.
Most chews are mostly not the active ingredient — they need glycerin, flour and flavouring to hold together, so what you pay for is often under a fifth of the product. And most use synthetic glucosamine rather than Green Lipped Mussel. This is 100% pure powder: one clinically proven ingredient at full strength.
Generally yes — there are no known interactions at these doses — but tell your vet you've started it, as you should with anything. If your dog is pregnant, nursing, scheduled for surgery, or on blood thinners, ask your vet before you start rather than after.
Possibly more point than if she were. Disc degeneration starts long before a visible symptom — in predisposed breeds it can begin before a dog's first birthday — and the earliest signs are behavioural rather than physical: hesitating at the sofa, walking with the head held low, taking the stairs one at a time. Starting before anything shows means protecting cartilage that is still intact.
One level scoop daily for dogs up to 35 lbs, two above that. A tub is around 60 days at the single-scoop dose, or 30 at the double. After the first month you can move to every other day for maintenance if you'd rather stretch it.
Ninety days from delivery, full refund, no return shipping. Email support@tryluckytails.com with your order number. We don't ask for the tub back and we don't ask you to prove it didn't work. That applies to every order including discounted and launch-priced ones.
